  • The Unit's existence is due to a grant of one million dollars American over five years, received from the U.S.-based W. K. Kellogg Foundation. The aims of the Unit, briefly stated, are as follows: KRAU will seek • to increase the understanding of rural problems and rural policies on the part of all Australians, urban and rural; • to play a part in the formulation of rural policy; • to help rural people to prepare for and accommodate changes in their social and economic environment; • to stimulate and help coordinate appropriate action by rural communities, groups and individuals. KRAU is not research oriented, but where appropriate, its policy will be to seek out and encourage other bodies to undertake necessary research.
