  • Evan Dutton, of the New Zealand Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, has pointed out (private communication, March 1977) that the steam credit would disappear for the Broadlands plant design. In this case, H2S would pass through the turbine and thence to the Claus plant at the temperature of the direct contact condenser (ca. 30°C). The steam would then have to be heated to 200°C before passing to the first catalytic converter. In other configurations, e.g., a stripper at the headend of a binary cycle plant, this enthalpy requirement would not exist and the steam credit would obtain.
