  • The Subramanyam essay was written earlier in 1987, and that on women artists in 1993.
  • Subramanyam wrote of “mosques with the sculptured stones of temples; however good their mosques were, these sculptured stones were there only as stones”, in Subramanyan, KG, The Living Tradition: Perspectives on Modern Indian Art, Calcutta: Seagull Books, 1987.
