- Aviam Soifer and Richard Weisberg (and his son) were among the conferees who accompanied us. On the Saturday night of the Sapelo weekend, we took supper under a large live oak at the old general-store-sometime-barbecue-and-fish eatery that was the only commercial enterprise in Hog Hammock, the island's community, small in size but rich in history, good will, and spirit. Someone discovered a bottle of, yes, Manischewitz gathering dust on a shelf. In that setting, around the serving table bearing remnants of our just-completed feast, we celebrated Havdallah. There were witnesses from Hog Hammock who were as taken with the event as was I. It has entered the island's lore and is in good hands there.
