  • On the fly leaf of his diary, Richard Hugh Kaighin wrote the following verse:
  • ‘Red Swedish’ deals probably refers to scots pine. ‘Quebec Pine’ deals probably refers to Weymouth pine (Pinus Strobus). Another term for imported pine used on the island is 'Yellow' pine, which was probably also Weymouth pine, which is mentioned by a number of respondents to the Folk Life Survey.
