Documents about the reforming of the company into an 'owner co-operative' are dated 1347 but its activities can be traced back to the 13th century. In 1882 all the constituent parts, individual works, and a copper mine were merged into the single company Stora Kopparbergs Bergslag. In 1888 'Stora' became a limited-liability company with a nominal capital of SEK 9.6m. In the early 1900s the need for restructuring the outdated and undervalued company became evident and in 1916 the Wallenberg group acquired a seat on the Board. Marcus Wallenberg chaired the Board from 1917 to his death in 1943, when Robert Ljunglof succeeded him.
