Crichton wrote after the lecture that Newton's metal, also known as Newton's alloy, is an eutectic mixture of Bismuth, Lead and Tin in the proportions; Bismuth, 50%; Lead, 31.2%; Tin, 18.8%. The melting point of this alloy is 98 Celsius. The current use of this alloy is in fire protection devices, fuses, etc.
