Created 01 Jan 2017| Updated 13 Dec 2022 | 12 articles

The Journal of Applied Statistics Best Paper Prize is awarded annually, as decided by the Editor-in-Chief with the support of the Associate Editors. The winning article receives a £500 prize, and their paper will be made free to view for the following year. All articles published in the Journal are automatically included for consideration.

Previous prize winners are highlighted below; all other articles listed in the collection were highly commended by the Editors.

2021 – Winner: Paravee Maneejuk & Woraphon Yamaka for "Significance test for linear regression: how to test without P-values?" by Maneejunk and Yamaka, 48(5)

The Prize Committee provided the following remarks:

"Maneejunk and Yamaka 2021 discussed a very popular topic, the p-value, in applied statistics. As a follow-up discussion of the 2016 ASA Statements on p-value, the authors conducted a timely review of the literature on the p-value and provided several alternative tools, such as the Bayes factor and the Plausibility-based belief function for drawing a conclusion from a statistical hypothesis testing procedure. The lucid writing style of the authors makes the paper very friendly to practitioners, applied statisticians, and even non-statistical scholars."

2021 – Commended Paper: "A new regression model for bimodal data and applications in agriculture" by Vasconcelos et al., 48(2)

Both are freely available for the next year and listed below.

Past Prize winners:

2019 - Winners: Cheng Ju et al., and J. Pecanka, A. W. van der Vaart & M. A. Jonker.

2018 - Winner: Georgiana Onicescu et al.
