John and Vivian Sabel Award

The annual John and Vivian Sabel Award was launched in 2016 to celebrate the publication of the 100th issue and 25th anniversary of the Journal of Contemporary China. The Award is issued annually, at the beginning of the year, to an outstanding article as chosen by the editorial team of the Journal. Each awardee is invited to speak at the Josef Korbel School of International Studies, University of Denver, before a reception and dinner in the awardee's honor.
Congratulations to Dr. Hong Yu, recipient of the 2020 annual John and Vivian Sabel Award of the best article in the Journal of Contemporary ChinaJ (JCC).
Dr Hong Yu is a Senior Research Fellow at the East Asian Institute, National University of Singapore. His research interests cover regional economic development in China, the “Belt and Road” initiatives, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the state-owned enterprises reform in China. He obtained his Doctoral Degree from the University of Sheffield, United Kingdom. His award-winning article, ‘Motivation behind China’s One Belt, One Road Initiatives and Establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank’, was published in Volume 26, Issue 105, 2017. This article was cited 82 times within three years of publication, a record for the JCC.
