The use of anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) as performance and image-enhancing drugs (PIEDs) has its origins in sport, particularly at elite level, however, AAS are increasingly used by the general population. This diverse collection of articles published in Drugs: Education, Prevention and Policy between 2001- 2022 all examine anabolic androgenic steroid (AAS) in general populations, particularly male gym users. Using both quantitative and qualitative approaches, these articles further understanding of population size, the motivations for use, information and support needs of people who use AAS and provide valuable theoretical insights.
