On the training of phonological awareness

Abstract

This paper describes a research project aiming at preventing language-disordered preschool children's later reading and writing problems by developing their phonological awareness. The procedure is described and some results from the training of phonological awareness from the first year of the project are presented. Next year when the children are in grade 1, the effect of the training on the development of their reading and writing/spelling will be evaluated.
