Vocabulary use during extended conversations by two cohorts of older adults

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to identify the vocabulary use patterns of 65- to 74-year-old and 75- to 85-year-old adults. Communication samples of routine conversations were collected from 10 individuals (5 men and 5 women) for each age cohort using voice-activated portable audiotape recorders. Analysis for frequency and commonality of word use was completed using custom computer software and are reported in extensive appendices.
