Contributing to social transformation through occupation: Experiences from a think tank

ABSTRACT

Occupational therapy is underpinned by the premise that engagement in occupation is fundamental to health and well-being. Through occupations, people are able to orchestrate their lives in ways that enable them not only to survive, but also to experience human flourishing. Through occupation, people can develop and maintain their families, neighbourhoods and communities as sources of belonging, opportunities and common action. Occupation, therefore, is not only important to each individual, but also, through collective occupation, people develop the kind of lives that they live together. Occupation is an essential factor in life quality, the experience of being human and the social transformation of individuals and of the societies of which people are a part. This article describes the formation of an International Think Tank for Occupation based social transformation. It begins with a brief overview of the conditions and context that underpinned the development of the group, and the milestones achieved to date in the establishment of a global network.

生活活动疗法的前提是，参与生活活动是健康和福祉的基础。通过生活活动，人们不仅能生存，而且能体验人类的发展、繁荣，从而协调自己的生活。通过生活活动，人们可以发展和维护他们的家庭、邻里和社区。这些是归属感、机会和共同行动的源泉。因此，生活活动不仅对每个人都很重要，而且通过集体性生活活动，人们可以发展共同生活的生活类型。生活活动是生活质量的一个重要因素，是人类的经历，是个人和社会的社会转型。本文介绍了基于社会转型而组成的生活活动国际智囊组织（International Think Tank for Occupation）。首先简要概述了该组织发展的条件和背景，以及迄今为止在建立全球网络方面取得的里程碑型成就。

La terapia ocupacional se sustenta en la premisa de que la participación en la ocupación constituye un factor fundamental para mantener la salud y el bienestar. En este sentido, las personas pueden orquestar su vida de manera de no solo lograr sobrevivir sino también de experimentar el florecimiento humano a través de sus ocupaciones. Mediante la ocupación las personas pueden potenciar y mantener a su familia, sus barrios y sus comunidades como lugares de pertenencia, oportunidad y acción colectiva. Ello significa que, además de ser importante para cada individuo, la ocupación reviste importancia colectivamente, pues por medio de la ocupación colectiva las personas pueden construir el tipo de vida que experimentan juntas. La ocupación constituye un factor esencial para fomentar la calidad de vida, la experiencia de ser humano y la transformación social de los individuos y las sociedades a las cuales pertenecen. El presente artículo da cuenta de la formación de un centro internacional de expertos orientado a la transformación social basada en la ocupación. Comienza con un breve resumen de las condiciones y el contexto en los que se fundó dicho grupo, así como de los hitos para establecer una red a nivel mundial logrados hasta la fecha.
