This year the Vasco da Gama Movement (VdGM) preconference, a meeting for future and young family physicians/general practitioners (GP), will take place in Warsaw (Poland) on 7–8 September 2011. Two days prior to the Wonca Europe conference, this encounter under the theme ‘Global Health, Primary Care and the role of young doctors’, will focus on the role of young GPs in worldwide health improvement. Using the ‘think globally, act locally’ principle, the participants will discover ways to implement global health strategies through their work. VdGM has invited Professor Jan De Maeseneer a family physician, Professor of Family Medicine at the University of Ghent, chairman of the European Forum for Primary Care and secretary general of the Network towards Unity for Health, to give a visionary lecture on this theme.

The preconference is an excellent way to discover health care systems, GP training and education and will give future and young GPs new ideas to take home and to spread to their peers.
