International Journal of General Systems (IJGS) - Guidelines for Prospective Guest Editors of Special Issues

Proposals for special issues in the IJGS from acknowledged experts (prospective Guest Editors) are encouraged in areas that are compatible with the Aims and Scope of the Journal.

The procedure for proposing a special issue is a two-part initiative. First, a preliminary proposal is sent to Radim Belohlavek, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal, at [email protected]. It is essential that this preliminary proposal contains the following items:

(1) a title of the proposed issue;
(2) name, affiliation, institutional e-mail address and institutional homepage of the prospective guest editor(s);
(3) a brief description of the subject of the issue;
(4) a rationale for proposing the special issue.

If the Editor-in-Chief finds the proposed issue suitable for the Journal, the author of the preliminary proposal is invited to submit a formal proposal. This formal proposal should contain the following:

(1) a list of potential articles, including authors' names, affiliations, and e-mail addresses;
(2) expected delivery date of the final manuscript;
(3) expected size of the final manuscript in terms of pages including figures and tables.

When the formal proposal is approved, the Guest Editor assumes responsibility for curating all submission intended for the special issue. During this period, the primary contact for the Guest Editor is Eduard Bartl, Editorial Assistant of IJGS. The final collection of manuscripts must be complete and must fully comply with Instructions for Authors that are included on the Journal homepage.

In order to prepare the final lineup for the special issue, the Guest Editor is expected to take the following actions:

(1) to inform the contributors about the required manuscript style, the maximum length of each manuscript, and a submission deadline;
(2) to arrange peer review using the IJGS' ScholarOne Manuscripts website, as well as making a fi nal publication recommendation for each invited paper; each paper must be reviewed by at least two reviewers;
(3) to check the completeness as well as correctness of style and language of each accepted manuscript;
(4) to make sure that all figures, tables, and photographs are of acceptable quality;
(5) to write an introduction to the special issue.

Before the accepted papers are sent through to production, the Guest Editor must ensure that each article contain the following items:

(1) full names of authors of the article (no abbreviations of first names are accepted) and their affiliations in English (names of foreign institutions must be translated to English);
(2) e-mail address of the corresponding author (in a footnote on the first page);
(3) an abstract;
(4) a set of keywords;
(5) the date when the manuscript was received and the date when its final version was received;
(6) a brief biographical statement and a photo of good quality for each author of the article.

Before the special issue can be sent through to the publisher for production, it will be sent to Eduard Bartl in order to check for its completeness as well as style and language correctness before receiving final approval from the Editor-in-Chief.
