Strategic Planning
This Virtual Special Issue provides short-term open access to many papers on strategic planning previously published in Planning Theory and Practice. Strategic planning is a topic which is well represented over 25 years of this journal’s history. Various perspectives can be found in the below, spanning theory and practice.
In late 2023, the Royal Town Planning Institute commissioned research on the demand and appetite for strategic planning in England, and early findings are being presented for the first time at The Planner Live North in Manchester, 19 March 2024. This Virtual Special Issue coincides with The Planner Live North and with the current research on the topic.
We have ensured inclusion of articles spanning the history of this journal, and have ordered them chronologically. In this sequence, readers may perceive a recent history of the pressures faced by advocates and practitioners of strategic planning.
