The Treatment of Acute Anxiety and Postoperative Gingival Pain by Hypnosis and Covert Conditioning: A Case Report

Abstract

This study describes the use of covert modeling, covert reinforcement, and autohypnosis to reduce preoperative apprehension and anxiety prior to dental surgery, autohypnosis to control postoperative bleeding of the gingiva, and hypnosis to reduce and refer postoperative pain. The role of independent and mediating variables was also noted.
