Abstract
This article reviews the activities and purposes of little people as well as the powers attributed to them in relation to: 1) the origin and ends of images and thinking processes and common images which develop in a variety of cultures; 2) the development of imagery in the thinking processes of children and its relationship to play patterns, creativity, and adult achievements; and 3) the diminution of imaginative processes in adults. Consideration of the origins of images and their significance also leads to questions regarding the time period that may elapse between internal acceptance of an image and its positive or negative effects on physiologic processes.
