State-Mandated Economic Education, Teacher Attitudes, and Student Learning

Pages 5-14 | Published online: 10 Jul 2014

Abstract

Twenty-eight states require some form of economic education in the public schools. Using the National Assessment of Economic Education database, it is found that these mandates, if not accompanied by adequate teacher training, have a negative effect on teacher attitudes that in turn may negatively influence student performance.
