Pages 35-40 | Published online: 02 Jul 2010

Summary

Hospital nursing staff members (N = 270) completed questionnaires examining 13 aspects of the way supervisors responded to their day-to-day job performance and six performance-related work outcomes. The majority of the supervisors' responses were significantly related to most of the outcome measures. Supervisors' behaviors compatible with behavior modification approaches to dealing with good and bad performance were related to enhanced productivity, and collaborative and participative styles of management were related to both satisfaction and productivity.
