Abstract
We derive the exact equation of state of one dimensional binary mixtures of non-additive hard rods. Our solution is complementary to the general result obtained by Longuet-Higgins 1958, (Molec. Phys., 1, 83) which is valid for nearest neighbour interactions. The analysis of the solution shows that as the pressure increases the system tends to an ordered state whose character depends on the composition and the value of the non-additivity parameter. This behaviour is similar to that observed experimentally in some metal alloys and other systems.
