- The interest in systems of high non-additivity and particularly mixtures of particles differing largely in their sizes (σ11≫σ22) stems from study of adsorption phenomena (see, for example, Tenne R. Bergmann E. Phys. Rev. B 1980 22 702 702 [2] on partially localized adsorption). It has also been shown elsewhere that there exists an equivalence between the mixture of hard spheres with σ22 = 0 and a system of attracting hard spheres (so-called Widom-Rowlinson correspondence, see [7]).

- We must note here that the orderings and separations in mixtures of high dimensionality are significantly different from those found in our model Namely, an order-disorder phenomena or demixing in two and three dimensions have a character of an abrupt phase transition while for our one-dimensional system the ‘transition’ proceeds smoothly.
