Abstract

Environmental planning and monitoring for Europe's largest oil terminal at Sullom Voe are reviewed. It is concluded that adverse physical impacts of the terminal have been minimal, and that the Shetland experience has become a model for sound environmental management and prudent co‐operation between the oil industry, local government, and environmental interests.
