Abstract
Regarding the nature of inquiry into the relations of ideology and art education, it is suggested that such inquiry may be understood as the critical analysis of ideologies, or philosophical research. After indicating the various meanings of the key terms in question, a suggestion is made that ideology may be understood nonpejoratively as a system of ideas that has a bearing on practice. Such an ideology can be judged to be more or less rationally defensible. Use is made of Richard Pratte's Ideology and Education, especially his coining of the acronym MKVICKER to help recall the components of an ideology.
