Abstract
Recent literature has exposed educators' confusion about the various lenses through which we may consider the intersection of education and culture. To assist art educators in developing comprehensive curricula, four approaches to culture and education are analyzed, including international-comparative, global, multicultural, and community-based education. Each is differentiated and clarified with examples from art education literature. Acknowledging that a blended approach is worthwhile, the author suggests an intercultural perspective, inspired by scholarship in other areas, which treats each student's own culture as one of many worthy of study.
