Abstract
This special issue of Science and Literacy explores specific challenges endemic to reading informational science texts. The researchers included in this special issue consider science text in a holistic manner, which encompasses both the graphics and words of science texts. Specifically, this issue considers (a) graphics' use within the overall communication of science; (b) the use of concrete examples and seductive details within the text of science writing; and (c) the integration of graphical information and the corresponding textual information.
