Genetic study of the Cuiva Indians of Venezuela

Summary

Serum and red cell protein markers were investigated in Cuiva Indians. Our ethnologic studies indicate that the low degree of genetic variability in this population is probably due to genetic drift.

Serum- und Erythrozytenproteinmarker wurden bei Cuiva-Indianern untersucht. Unsere ethnischen Studien zeigen, daß der geringe Anteil genetischer Variabilität dieser Bevölkerung wahrscheinlich durch genetische Drift bedingt ist.

Résumé

Des marqueurs de protéines sériques et érythrocytaires ont été étudiés chez les Indiens Cuiva. Nos études ethnologiques suggèrent que le faible degré de variabilité génétique dans cette population est probablement dû à la dérive génétique.
