Correlation of arm-span and height in young women of two races

Summary

This paper presents the results of an anthropometric study of 55 black and 74 white females, ages 23–28 years, employed by a state agency in North Carolina. All subjects were measured for height and arm-span. Correlations of the two measures were obtained for each race independently, and differences between the two races were examined. Correlation of arm-span and height for black subjects was 0·776 and for white subjects was 0·894. Analysis of covariance revealed significant (Pˇ-0·001) interaction between race and the relationship between arm-span and height.

Diese Arbeit stellt die Ergebnisse einer anthropometrischen Untersuchung von 55 schwarzen und 74 weißen Frauen des Alters 23–28 Jahren vor, die bei einer Landesbehörde in Nord-Carolina beschäftigt waren. Bei allen Probandinnen wurden Körperhöhe und Spannweite gemessen. Die Korrelationen der beiden Maße wurden für jede Rasse unabhängig bestimmt, und es wurden die Unterchiede zwischen den beiden Rassen geprüft. Die Korrelation von Spannweite und Körperhöhe betrug bei schwarzen Probandinnen 0,776 und bei weißen Probandinnen, 0,894. Die Kovarianzanalyse zeigte eine signifikante (pˇ-0,001) Verknüpfung zwischen Rasse und dem Verhältnis zwischen Spannweite und Körperhöhe.

Cet article présente les résultats d'une étude anthropométrique de 55 femmes noires et de 74 femmes blances employées d'administration en Caroline du Nord. Tous les sujets ont été mesurés pour la stature et l'envergure des bras. Les corrélations entre les deux mesures ont été établies pour chaque race indépendamment et les différences entre les deux races sont examinées. La corrélation entre l'envergure des bras et la stature chez les noires est de 0·776, elle est de 0·894 chez les blanches. L'analyse de covariance rév`ele une interaction significative (Pˇ-0.001) de la race et de la relation entre envergure et la stature.
