ABSTRACT

The phase and morphology changes of both Chinese silica brick and silica raw material after high-temperature heat treatment, as well as the high-temperature compressive creep behaviour of silica bricks were investigated. The results show that silica raw materials presented a dense structure at room temperature, but cracks and pores appeared after heating treatment. With the crushing of silica particles, silica brick was transformed into homogeneous structure, and final homogeneous degree of the silica brick made of crystalline silica is higher than that of cemented silica. The final creep results of the silica bricks showed expansion after high-temperature compressive creep testing (1550 °C, 50 h), and the expansion of silica brick made of crystalline silica was larger. Compared with the Chinese standard GB/T 5073 - 2005, setting L0 as the original height of the silica brick can more fully reflect the expansion creep characteristics of silica brick.
