On streams of random events

Pages 13-23 | Published online: 22 Dec 2011

Abstract

In various applied fields, we encounter streams of events occurring successively in time in a more or less random way. Instances of such random events are the claims arising in an insurance company, the calls on a telephone line, the arrival of customers at a counter, etc. In this paper we shall deal with some of the mathematical models set up for the probabilistic analysis of streams of this character, with particular reference to the streams of insurance claims.
