Abstract
This paper reports the results of a study of man-machine behaviors using the E-R (Entity-Relationship) model as well as a conceptual data model with the goal of increasing the efficiency of its applicability in the Chinese environment.
The user interface of the query system is prescribed and discussed in detail for its process development and theoretical analysis. This experiment focuses on the ICON dialogue interface in DSSs (Decision Support Systems). A design framework is developed which consists of three layers:
1. Front-End Layer - manages the user's iconic query graph and produces the logically algebraic expression.
2. Logical Layer - translates the logical meaning of the user's request into the relational query language.
3. Physical Layer - retrieves the data according to the syntax of the relational query language.
