Minimizing insecticide use against cauliflower pests in India

Abstract

Endosulfan 0.05%, methyl demeton 0.025% and malathion 0.05% were found to effectively check population build up of the aphid, Brevicoryne brassicae infesting cauliflower seed crop and that such an effect was more pronounced under lower doses of fertilizers. Further escalation in aphid population after March could be curtailed by promoting the role of predator, Coccinelle septempunctata. The attack of Pieris brassicae which appeared toward the end of April was also found to be influenced by initial combination of treatments and could be effectively checked by spraying 0.05% endosulfan at fortnightly intervals during May.
