Employee perception towards attrition in IT industry - With special reference to Chennai city

Abstract

Attrition in IT sector is leading in a high rate now in India and many big IT firms are facing problems in taking forward the projects. Attrition means the departure of the employees from the company for any reason like resignation, death, retirement, termination etc. With the beginning of current pandemic in India, the IT companies are now looking forward to grow the business by building the various business models which are based on the user data and transactions. These models in turn have led to the growth of trained professionals to equip them to work on various projects. Attrition is a process where employees of the organization are leaving or departing from their jobs due to various reasons. This paper concentrates on the factors that are responsible for the current attrition rate in the IT sectors of India, as the attrition rate in the IT sector was highest in India at 8.03% in the period of April-June 2021. IT is the only sector where the attrition has risen appreciably during the recent pandemic situation. It is very important for the companies to keep a tab on the attrition rate, as it may cause major dent in the organizational productivity, as the IT sector has to invest a large amount in recruiting new employees and training them to fill the necessary gaps. This paper focuses on observing the employees’ viewpoint on attrition in IT sector and comprehend the factors associated to attrition in selected IT organizations and to identify the leading factors causing employee attrition. The result of the study will pave the pathway for the IT sector in providing the key insights to the employers to enriching their retention measures in the organization.
