Reimagining Journalism Education Through a Pedagogy of Counter-News-Story

Notes

Venceremos means “we shall overcome.”

According to the Poynter Institute, the percentage of journalists holding college degrees has steadily grown. Half of all college-educated journalists (which is now about 90% of the workforce) earned a degree in journalism or communication. The largest proportion of journalism majors work for daily newspapers (43%), followed by wire services (36%), weekly newspapers (32%), television (31%), radio (22%), and newsmagazines (19%). See http://www.poynter.org/content/content_view.asp?id=28790.

This became my dissertation project.

Critical whiteness studies is an offshoot of critical race theory that draws from sociology, legal studies, history, cultural studies and literature to interrogate the material, social, discursive, and ideological aspects of whiteness, as well as the identity of being white (Delgado and Stefancic Citation1997).
