The specific professional nature of early years education and styles of adult/child interaction

SUMMARY

The first part of this article will attempt to show the profoundly interactive reality of early-years teaching. The second part will report on an empirical study to compare the interaction profile (in educational contexts) of Protuguese and English early-years practitioners and will attempt to explain the differences between the two profiles.

La première partie de cet article tente de montrer la réalité profondément interactive de l'enseignement dans la petite enfance. La deuxième partie, fondée sur une étude empirique, compare le profil interactif dans deux contextes, celui de praticiens de la petite enfance anglais et portugais, et cherche à expliquer les différences observées.

Der erste Teil des Beitrags arbeitet den grundsätzlich interaktiven Charakter der Elementarerziehung heraus. Im zweiten Teil werden auf der Grundlage einer empirischen Studie die Interaktionsprofile von portugiesischen und englischen pädagogischen Fachkräften verglichen; es wird versucht, die Unterschiede zu erklären.

RESUMEN

La primera parte del artículo muestra la naturaleza profundamente interactiva del rol profesional de las educadoras de infancia. En la segunda, se presenta un perfil del estilo de interacción de las educadoras portuguesas y se hace una sencilla comparación con el correspondiente perfil de las educadoras inglesas.
