Pages 42-46 | Published online: 11 Mar 2010

Notes

1 Miller and Tredici are retired US Air Force colonels. They adapted their article ‘The Eye and Night Vison’ from their USAF Special Report, AL-SR-1992–0002, Night Vision Manual for the Flight Surgeon. The entire military manual can be purchased from <www.stormingmedia.co.uk>.

2 Nightflight Sonic Art commission interviews (Germination, London) 7 August 2006: the producer and directors of Nightflight interviewed a number of artists including Joe Banks, Dave Lawrence, Neil C. Smith, Sebastian Castagna, Poulomi Desai and Scanner, regarding possibilities for sound. A number of the artists enthused about frequency with fascinating suggestions such as Banks's idea to bury resonant speakers that would make the earth itself rumble, or Castagna's work with eight-channel systems that immerse and surround the audience. The commission was finally achieved by Scanner and operated in performance by Simon Whetham.
