Abstract

Theatre PUR was formed in 1991. Based in the East End of London, the company's work has been directed, produced, and administered on a day-to-day basis by co-founders Lisa Baraitser and Simon Bayly. Projects to date include Small Talk About Chromosomes (1992/3), Where is Miss Yoko? (1993/4), The Carousel Britannico (1994), Place + Target (1995/6) [a word play by Richard Foreman], Euphoria (1997/8), and Running Time (1998/2000). PUR derives from ‘purim’, the Jewish festival traditionally associated with the impromptu performance of chaotic and fragmentary comic plays, In October 2000 the company took a break.
