Notes
1. My teaching and research has been with indigenous populations in Mexico and Guatemala, and with urban and rural students in Costa Rica and Honduras. In the USA, my research and teaching was directed at teachers in K-12th grade, and at Latino adolescents in the greater metropolitan Boston area and throughout the New England states as a multicultural specialist in bilingual education. In Spain, I have studied and researched intercultural education through reception centers in schools and through cultural mediators working with Latin American students and families. Lastly, in the Netherlands, I have focused much of my research on Dutch–Turkish students of the second generation in what is known as ‘Black schools’ because of the concentration of minority students. I have written extensively on the issue of multicultural and intercultural education, and have focused recently on citizenship education within the European Union and particularly in the Netherlands.
