Abstract

In the present study, gold nanoparticles were synthesized by reducing chloroaurate ions with Ralstonia eutropha. The physicochemical properties of gold nanoparticles were analyzed. Gold nanoparticles synthesized from aqueous solution of 1 mM HAuCl4 at pH 3 were highly stable and uniformly distributed with SPR band centered at nearly 545 nm. The TEM analysis revealed that gold nanoparticles were spherical in shape and diameter in the range of 10–30 nm. The photocatalytic degradation of 2, 4 dichlorophenol (DCP) was studied. About 82% and 61.5% degradation of 2, 4 DCP was obtained with biogenic gold nanoparticles in photo- and nonphotocatalytic degradation processes, respectively.
