The International Network for the Study of Spirituality
(formerly the British Association for the Study of Spirituality – BASS)

A unique international network for people interested in bringing the study of spirituality to life through research, scholarship, education and practice.

Benefits of Membership

Connection: The Network connects you to a growing community of researchers, educators, scholars and practitioners involved in the study of spirituality in its myriad aspects.

Journal: Members receive two issues each year of the Journal for the Study of Spirituality (JSS) in print form, and access to the entire online archive (2011 to date).

Conferences: Conferences provide an opportunity for our community to meet, learn, develop ideas and create new syntheses, and to plan future collaborative work. Members receive a discount on the conference fee and have the opportunity to submit a paper based on their conference presentation for consideration for publication in the Journal for the Study of Spirituality.

Free informational services: INSS facilitates discussion of emerging issues relating to the study of spirituality, the dissemination of research, the application of findings, and consideration of their impact. Through its website, it enables members to keep in touch with one another as well as with current debates, developments and events, and to make links with other like-minded organisations.

Spirituality Scholars’ Network (SSN): The SSN offers particular support to postgraduate students and new researchers in the field of spirituality studies. It hosts regular symposia where participants can share and discuss their work, interests and experiences in a supportive and encouraging environment.

NEW FOR 2021:

1. Members are invited to post Abstracts of recently-completed doctoral theses (or of those nearing completion) on the INSS website.

2. New Special Interest Groups are being developed, including ‘Spirituality and Consciousness Studies’.

Mid-May	Publication of the first issue of the Journal for the Study of Spirituality.
2012
May 15–17	Second international conference: Spirituality in a Fragmented World
	(Highgate House, Northampton).
2014
May 19–21	Third international conference: Spirituality in a Challenging World
	(Ashridge House, Berkhampstead)
	Student Support Network (SSN) established (now the Spirituality Scholars’ Network).
2016
May 9	BASS admitted to the UK Register of Charities.
	(Registered Charity No. 1166990).
May 23–26	Fourth international conference: Can Spirituality Transform Our World?
	(Chancellors Conference Centre, Manchester).
2018
May 17–19	Fifth international conference (in conjunction with the Sixth European
	Conference on Spirituality, Religion and Health, ECRSH): Forgiveness and
	Reconciliation in Health, Medicine and Social Sciences
	(Coventry University).
2020
Mid-April	Publication of the Tenth Anniversary issue of the Journal for the Study of
	Spirituality.
July 8	Decision ratified at the BASS Annual General Meeting to change the name
	of the Association to International Network for the Study of Spirituality.
December 8	New website launched by the International Network for the Study of
	Spirituality.
2021
June 7–9	Sixth international conference: Spirituality in Research, Professional Practice and Education (postponed from 2020 because of coronavirus)
	(Online, in association with York St. John University).

The 10th Anniversary of Journal for the Study of Spirituality was celebrated at the 2021 INSS Conference.
