Since publication, the authors were alerted to the need to provide some further details to the Materials and Methods section. To provide further clarification, the authors have included some additional references and provided updated figures. The list of corrections are as follows:
Page 3005: The sentence “Primary human nucleus pulposus tissues were isolated from NP of human intervertebral disc of 15 normal subjects and 30 patients of cervical spondylosis undergoing surgery for microdiscectomy or discectomy and fusion in The Affiliated Shanghai General Hospital of Nanjing Medical University.” has been changed to “Primary human nucleus pulposus tissues were isolated from NP of human intervertebral disc of 30 patients of cervical spondylosis undergoing surgery for microdiscectomy or discectomy and fusion in The Affiliated Shanghai General Hospital of Nanjing Medical University.”
Page 3005: A new sentence has been inserted at the end of the sentence “Primary human nucleus pulposus tissues were isolated from NP of human intervertebral disc of 30 patients of cervical spondylosis undergoing surgery for microdiscectomy or discectomy and fusion in The Affiliated Shanghai General Hospital of Nanjing Medical University.” The new sentence is-
Normal human nucleus pulposus tissues were derived from 15 patients with cervical trauma but without cervical spondylosis as normal subject controls.
Page 3005: A new sentence has been inserted at the begning of the section “HNPC culture and treatment”. The new sentence is-
HNPC cells were isolated and cultured as previously reported [21]. After washing with sterile phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) 3 times, annulus fibrosus (AF) was meticulously eliminated from the human intervertebral disc tissues. The culture medium was replaced every 3 days, and the cells were passaged when they reached 80-90% confluence. Second- or third-generation cells were used for the indicated experiments.
