Dancing in the Streets? No, Dancing OFF THE STREETS

ABSTRACT

For the past year and a half, I have been part of a team of dance instructors offering a weekly movement class to women residents in a safe shelter. The women are recovering from the horrors of human trafficking, and most are also recovering from drug and alcohol addictions. My two fellow dance teachers and I are creating a curriculum that continues to evolve as we gain more experience in this setting. I share our story here, as there might be other dance educators who want to bring the many benefits and joys of dance to women who are fighting to reclaim their bodies.
