Virtual Learning During COVID-19

Perspectives from Dance Students

Abstract

This study investigated how tertiary dance students coped with the sudden shift in learning models caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 100 dance students participated in this study, offering the learners’ perspectives regarding virtual dance classes. The study found that students were capable of adapting to virtual learning, although this model was not ideal. Restrictions (space, technology, emotion) caused by the pandemic boosted students’ creativity in dance practice, choreography, and performance. A sense of community and entrepreneurship was developed. This article shares insights on tools and technologies, exhibits their accomplishments, and gives recommendations from dance students involved in the study.
