Conductive nanocomposite coatings—manufacturing, features, and technical revolution

ABSTRACT

In this review, conducting nanocomposite coatings have been discussed for corrosion protection of metal substrates and alloys. Conducting polymers reveal inherent corrosion protection properties, which were further enhanced by adding nanoparticles to form efficient nanocomposite coatings. In this regard, conducting coatings filled with carbon nanoparticles (carbon nanotubes, graphene, graphene oxide, etc.) have good corrosion resistance, durability, mechanical properties, wear resistance, adhesion, and barrier properties for metal substrates. Several methods have been used for manufacturing of nanocomposite coatings such as solution method, spray technique, dip coating, spin coating, electrodeposition, chemical vapor deposition, etc. Conducting polymer nanocomposites have been applied for technical applications such as electronics, energy devices, solar cells, and engineering materials.

Dr. Ayesha Kausar is currently affiliated with NPU-NCP joint international research center on Advanced Nanomaterials and Defects engineering, Northwestern Polytechnical University Xi’an, China and UNESCO-UNISA Africa Chair in Nanosciences/Nanotechnology, iThemba LABS, Somerset West, South Africa. Her current research interests include design, fabrication, characterization, and structure-property relationship/potential explorations of nanocomposites, polymeric nanocomposites, hybrid materials, nanoparticles, carbon nanoparticles (graphene, fullerene, carbon nanotube, nanodiamond, etc.), nanofibers, nano-foams, and related nanostructures/ nanomaterials. Dr. Kausar has contributed 7 books (authored monographs), > 90 book chapters/encyclopedias, and more than 580 publications to the field of nano/materials sciences and technology, so far.
