Role of Art Therapy in Identity Exploration Among LGBTQIA+ Individuals: A Scoping Review (Rôle de l'art-thérapie dans l’exploration de l’identité chez les personnes LGBTQIA+ : un examen de la portée)

Abstract

This scoping review explores the relatively uncharted territory of art therapy’s potential influence on the identity exploration and well-being of LGBTQIA+ individuals. This synthesis of peer reviewed research gathered from diverse databases (such as SCOPUS, PsycINFO, and Elsevier) underscores the promising role of art therapy in assisting individuals to navigate the intricate path of comprehending their sexual and gender identities. The review also highlights the necessity for the establishment of ethical guidelines for supporting the community. The scoping review contributes to the evolving understanding of art therapy’s efficacy within the LGBTQIA+ context, and emphasizes application and practice with diverse cultural groups.

RÉSUMÉ

Cet examen de la portée explore le terrain relativement inexploré de l’influence potentielle de l’art-thérapie sur l’exploration identitaire et le bien-être des personnes LGBTQIA+. Cette synthèse de recherches évaluées par des pairs et recueillies à partir de diverses bases de données (telles que SCOPUS, PsycINFO et Elsevier) souligne le rôle prometteur de l’art-thérapie pour aider les individus à parcourir le chemin complexe de la compréhension de leur identité sexuelle et de genre. L’examen souligne également la nécessité d’établir des lignes directrices éthiques pour soutenir la communauté. L’examen de la portée contribue à l’évolution de la compréhension de l’efficacité de l’art-thérapie dans le contexte LGBTQIA+ et met l’accent sur l’application et la pratique avec une diversité de groupes culturels.
