Abstract
Berne's unique contribution to treatment and cure is a powerful way to describe transference and countertransference because inherent in the TA language is the central dynamic created in a therapy situation. The distinction between structured and unstructured personalities is drawn, and the implications of these differences for treatment are described. This article also considers the way transference can be conceptualized and used in classical long-term therapy as well as integrated with focused regressions designed to facilitate redecisions in the Child. Finally, the creative and transformational potential of psychotherapy is outlined.
