The Anatomy of Belief

Pages 254-261 | Published online: 28 Dec 2017

Abstract

Every system rests on a small cluster of original philosophical beliefs or premises. Basic premises are rapidly enforced by supporting language, causing believers to become ensnared in rhetoric. Few people examine original philosophical ideas. To extend psychological freedom, the authors recommend that people examine their philosophical premises. However, argument at anything beyond the level of the first assumptions is futile because of the circularity of rhetoric. The difference between transactional analysis and psychoanalysis is explained.
