Abstract
Awareness of and respect for a client's internal boundaries is necessary for the development of an effective therapeutic relationship. In pushing past boundaries established by the client, the therapist runs the risk of failing to be attuned to the client's relational needs. Such failure can significantly hinder the therapeutic relationship and thus the therapy itself.
