Older Women in Continuing Care Retirement Communities

Abstract

A typical resident in an independent living unit within a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) is an 82- year-old white female who is widowed, divorced, or has never been married. This article provides an overview of the changing CCRC industry and the long-term care decision making that occurs within these communities. Implications are presented for professionals who work with older women.
