Abstract
This study examined the functional and psychosocial characteristics of 100 community-dwelling older women recovering from hip fractures. The greater number of pre-fracture health conditions reported by the women, the lower they rated their post-fracture ADL recovery. The more stress, depression, and help received from informal network members, the poorer the women s perceived recovery. The greater their feelings of attachment to their informal network, the higher the women rated their ADL and overall recovery. Discussion focuses on the role of psychosocial factors in the recovery process.
